It is with a great sense of pride that I am writing message for website of Agriculture Livestock & Cooperation Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Agriculture is the lifeblood of our economy. 80% of the rural population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa relies on Agriculture. The Agriculture Department play a vital role in fostering the economy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This Department in realization of its goal and mandate is striving hard with its all possible efforts within the available resources to ensure food security, poverty alleviation and to generate employment opportunities through achieving higher growth rate in this vital sector of the economy. Agriculture Department has initiated various steps for its development. Advanced technology is being used to precisely level the farms on scientific patterns not only for sustainable use of water but also to increased crop productions. Farm Services Centers has been established at District and Tehsil level for the provision of all services under one roof i.e. improved varieties seeds, Agriculture machinery, other agricultural inputs and education/training to farmers in modern techniques of agriculture and livestock breeding. The Agriculture Department is making efforts to reclaim culturable waste land and provide irrigation facilities in rainfed areas to bring maximum land under cultivation. Olive program has been started to address the edible oil situation and its promotion in the province. Expertise measure are being taken in the field of water management /water saving techniques, such as construction of check dams, water storage ponds/tanks, Sprinkle/drip as high efficiency irrigation systems etc. Our government since its formation has been striving hard to revitalize institutions, put in place systems and mitigate all hurdles to progress. Unlike the past practice, we are taking the lead in setting our own development. Since the challenges are of great magnitude, we expect our development partners to support us in our drive for change, economic growth and development. I would finally, like to thank and congratulate all who have contributed in putting together this efforts. Now the responsibility lies with us to implement it for development and reduction of poverty.
